Similar to our 5 Button Touch Panel product, but with the added flexibility of being able to individually apply any number (up to the maximum possible) of touch pads wherever they are required. Individual touch sensor boards fixed in the desired locations are simply daisy-chained using ready-made easy-fit cables (available in a variety of standard lengths).
Features Reduced cost alternative to having a custom panel layout made, particularly in the case of small quantity requirements. Suitable for more complex applications consisting of non-coplanar faces. Use any number of touch pads from 1, up to a maximum (TBD) limited by the acceptable delay to pass messages along the chain. Every touch pad is identical, individual identity is automatically determined by its position in the chain. Option to have software controllable LED illumination within the touch pad, allowing the touch panel to be "brought to life" as an eye catching display, and to provide user prompting of buttons to touch. May be applied to LED illuminated acrylic panel for overall back lighting - see Backlit Touchpanel The two ends of the chain terminate on a basic interface board which provides an RS-232 port (RJ-45) for connection to a PC, and feeds power along the chain to each touch pad. An auxiliary DC power inlet connector is provided on the interface board for applications with larger numbers of touch pads, or where illuminated pads are used, and insufficient power is available from the PC serial port. An inexpensive generic 9V mains adaptor will then be required. Each touch pad has two identical daisy-chaining connectors which may be connected either way in the chain. Auto-discovery of data direction ensures each port is appropriately assigned to its correct function. Additional touch pads may be easily added to the chain at any time as the need arises. RJ-45 port on board, and RJ-45 to 9way D-Type adaptor allow common networking patch cable or 8way flat cable to be used. Depending on quality of cable, the touch panel may be situated a considerable distance from the PC base unit. Will work through most single glazed windows up to at least 10mm thick. Works on some double glazed winows depending on individual circumstances. Sensitivity may be adjusted through software control by sending simple commands to the touch pads via the serial port.
